Discussion:
Texture (see attached handouts)
“La Boca is a neighborhood or barrio of the Argentine capital, Buenos Aries and is a popular destination for its colorful houses. Looking at photos of these amazing buildings is a good way to start this project.” Pass around photos of the houses or send the file to teachers ahead of time so they can have them available to view on the Smartboard. If you are doing the lesson in the classroom there is a great powerpoint with large colorful pictures of the houses.
Class time:
Have students choose several colors of construction paper (the more colorful, the better!) to create large rectangles and triangles for the roofs. The rectangles can either be crimped or folded tightly like fans to create the textured effect.
Have the students glue the rectangles onto the white paper so that the buildings are side by side. Rotating the texture adds interest to their collage.
Flat paper may be drawn on with markers to create windows and doors, etc. These shapes are cut out and glued to the buildings.
