What is Art Adventure?

It is an art appreciation program created and overseen by the Minneapolis Institute of Art (MIA). A trained volunteer (known as a Picture Person) visits your child’s classroom three times during November with artwork reproductions from MIA’s collection. Each Picture Person uses open-ended questions and group discussion to help students describe what they see, to notice details, to understand how the parts form a whole idea, and to support their opinions or preferences with sound reasons.

This year’s Art Adventure theme is “Artists’ Inspirations” and introduces Otter Lake Elementary students to six very different works of art ranging from a 18th century jade sculpture from China to a Georgia O’Keefe painting from 1956. Check out the link below for a glimpse at the amazing art your child is experiencing this month! And don’t forget… the original works of art are at MIA where admission is free every day!
