November is ART ADVENTURE!

Wash-1.jpgCreated and overseen by the Minneapolis Institute of Art (Mia), Art Adventure is an art appreciation program funded by the OLE PTA.

Parent volunteers — known as a ‘Picture Person” — trained by Mia visit each classroom three times with artwork reproductions from Mia’s collection. Each Picture Person uses open-ended questions and group discussion to help students describe what they see, to notice details, to understand how the parts form a whole idea, and to support their opinions or preferences with sound reasons.

This year’s Art Adventure theme, Cultural Reflections in Art, introduces our students to six very different works of art ranging from a 1st-2nd Century Chinese sculpture to a 1950’s U.S. folk-style oil painting.

DID YOU KNOW that general admission to Mia galleries is FREE—all day, every day, for everyone—no ticket required? Ask your student about the artwork discussed in their classroom and take them to Mia to see the real deal! http://new.artsmia.org/
The link below shows all the artwork from this month’s theme.

November is ART ADVENTURE month!

What is Art Adventure?

It is an art appreciation program created and overseen by the Minneapolis Institute of Art (MIA). A trained volunteer (known as a Picture Person) visits your child’s classroom three times during November with artwork reproductions from MIA’s collection. Each Picture Person uses open-ended questions and group discussion to help students describe what they see, to notice details, to understand how the parts form a whole idea, and to support their opinions or preferences with sound reasons.

This year’s Art Adventure theme is “Artists’ Inspirations” and introduces Otter Lake Elementary students to six very different works of art ranging from a 18th century jade sculpture from China to a Georgia O’Keefe painting from 1956. Check out the link below for a glimpse at the amazing art your child is experiencing this month! And don’t forget… the original works of art are at MIA where admission is free every day!

December Art Concept- TEXTURE

The end of the year is here but we’re still going strong with Art at OLE. This month we are focusing on the art concept of texture and there are some fun projects in store for the students.

4th Graders have already made their clay masks and they are in the process of being fired before they can be glazed.

Thank you so much for all of your time and help. The beautiful artwork shows how much you are giving to the program!

November Art Concept – SHAPE

Hello and welcome to November with Art at OLE! We are starting our second month and we hope all of you had a great start with your classes. We’ve noticed some great art work on the walls of OLE so thank you for making the building so beautiful.

This month’s art concept is Shape. Students will be learning the difference between Geometric Shape and Organic/Natural Shape.  Geometric Shapes are squares, triangles, rectangles;  Organic/Natural Shapes are shapes found in nature like leaves, clouds, tree, etc. Check out our website to see the great shape projects that we will be creating this month.
First graders will be making their clay leaves this week. This project is always a favorite of students and parents alike.
If you have any questions or comments, please contact your grade level coordinator. We will be happy to help you.
Finally, catch up on all things OLE Art at our website: https://otterlakeartintheclassroom.wordpress.com/

We are very thankful for all of our wonderful Volunteers in the Art Program!
Have a very thankful November!

October Art Concept – Line

The Art Room was buzzing yesterday as all of the Grade Level Coordinators were getting ready for the month of October.  We are so excited to be back in the art room this year! All of the grade level bins are stocked with lesson plans, discussion notes and art supplies, ready for the kiddos to make some fabulous art projects.   5th grade will be making their clay projects this month.

Classroom Coordinators are busy setting up their October art dates and will be getting in touch with their Volunteers soon.

October’s concept is LINE.  One of my favorite quotes in art is from Paul Klee,

A line is a dot that went for a walk.

Lines are the most basic element of drawing.  Lines can go up and down, back and forth, straight or curvey.  Artists use contour lines to make art work look more interesting and realistic.

Thank you so much for your help.  Have fun doing Art this month!!
